Maximize Retention
Spreadsheet Boot Camp’s content was carefully crafted so lessons build off of each other. By forcing you to recall previous topics, we not only increase the knowledge you retain, but we also help you tie together concepts. After all, in the real world you will rarely be asked to simply enter a single formula. Instead, you will be asked to complete projects that span worksheets or even workbooks and involve numerous Excel formulas and tools. The sooner you can tie together concepts the sooner you can master Excel.

Efficiency is the most overlooked aspect of Excel, especially for college and university students. With a deadline fast approaching and your boss looking over your shoulder, all the Excel knowledge in the world won’t help if you can’t complete the assignment on time. SBC encourages everyone to “put away the mouse” and use the keyboard. We guide you through all the shortcuts, provide you with a printout to keep at your desk, and remind you when to use them. Learning to use the keyboard is easier than it sounds; it just takes some will-power. However, we do recognize that not everyone has these goals, so we designed our Excel training so anyone can complete it, regardless of their goals.

Speaking of efficiency, go download our Free Excel Shortcut PDFs. Print it off, and keep it at your desk!

The second most overlooked aspect of Excel is “Best Practices”. We define best practices as the approach you should take while designing new spreadsheets, understanding or reviewing existing spreadsheets, and checking and updating spreadsheets for errors.
Some firms (too few, in our opinion) have Excel best practice training that cover topics such as how to color code internal spreadsheets for ease of use. We obviously can’t tell you your firm’s standards (if they have them), but we do cover the mentality you should have while designing spreadsheets.
Have you ever been handed a spreadsheet and been told to “update it”, but you’ve never seen the spreadsheet before? We will explain how you can quickly review and understand an existing spreadsheet. We will also discuss how to quickly find and remove errors.

Traditional Excel training courses rely on lectures and demonstrations, but studies show that you learn most effectively when you practice and immediately implement what you’ve learned. SBC was founded based on this learning principle. The entire tutorial is based inside Excel, creating a hands-on Excel training environment. We aim to strike a balance by guiding you through difficult topics, but we don’t spell out every little detail. This reduces the time you spend reading and increases the time you spend discovering Excel yourself in our structured environment.
